You’re up on what PLR is, and all the advantages it offers. You know ways you can use private label rights products in your content creation plan.
Now it’s time for the fun part – buying some PLR content. You’ll also need to develop a plan for how you will use that PLR package and for storing your downloads so you can find them later.
I’m really good at the first part. I’m so good at it that I have three external hard drives, and most of the 1TB drive on my computer, just crammed with my PLR purchases.
The second part, the planning part, is what often trips me up.
I always have a plan in my head for what I want to do with my new purchase. The trouble is, I’m seldom ready to put that plan in motion right after I make my purchase. This means my plans have to be documented somewhere so I can use them later. That’s the hard part, at least for me.
So let’s dig into the first step:
Find potential sources of PLR, and then evaluate the content to be sure you’re getting high-quality materials from a reputable vendor.
5 Ways to Find PLR
There are a variety of ways and places to find PLR, including:
• Run a Google search to find PLR in your niche. (i.e., “travel PLR”)
• Ask your colleagues for recommendations.
• Request recommendations on business and marketing groups/forums.
• See if your general network has any recommendations.
• Go directly to any known PLR vendors in your niche.
15 Google Searches for Finding PLR
One of the best and easiest ways to find all the PLR content you need is to search Google for it. What you’ll do is search your niche keywords (such as “dog training” or “organic gardening) alongside PLR-related words such as:
-
- PLR
- PLR content
- Private label rights
- Private label rights content
- PLR ebooks
- PLR reports
- PLR articles
- PLR courses
- Private label rights ebooks
- Private label rights reports
- Private label rights articles
- Private label rights courses
- Best PLR
- PLR vendors
- PLR sellers
For example, you might run searches such as:
• Dog training PLR
• Organic gardening PLR articles
• Best car restoration PLR content
An Unusual Way to Get PLR
The vast majority of the time, you’re going to get PLR content by using the methods mentioned above. That’s the easiest, because you find the content, do your due diligence, and then purchase it.
However, if you want to get PLR content that no one else has access to, and you don’t mind working a little harder for it, then here’s an idea:
Ask product sellers if they’ll license their content.
Not every marketer is going to be open to this. However, one type of marketer who may be willing to make this deal is someone who has a really good product, but they don’t have the marketing skills to sell it.
For example, you can find products on sites like ClickBank.com and JVZoo.com, and drop an email asking the seller if they’d be willing to sell you a PLR license.
This may be an appealing offer. If someone struggles to sell a $25 ebook, they may jump at the offer to sell a license to you for $125 to $250.
Check the License
You’ve seen me make this point already and you’ll probably see it made some more, you read the license carefully to be sure you can use the content in the way you have planned.
Don’t assume that everyone’s definition of PLR is the same, because it isn’t.
- There are varying definitions of PLR licensing.
- There are varying permissions for PLR licensing.
- There are varying restrictions for PLR licensing.
Read each term of the license to be sure of what you can and cannot do with the content. Choose only the PLR that will meet your needs by allowing you to use the content in the way you intend.
Request a Sample
Most PLR vendors provide samples of the content on their website. If not, you’ll want to request a sample and then ask yourself these questions:
- Is the content factually accurate?
- Is the content well-written in terms of grammar, sentence structure and similar?
- Is the content engaging?
- Is the content helpful in reaching a desired outcome?
If you can answer “yes” to these three questions, then move on to this next question…
Determine How Much Tweaking is Needed
As you’ll discover later in this guide, you can and should tweak PLR content to make it unique.
However, …
What you don’t want to do is purchase PLR content that requires a lot of tweaking up front just to make it usable.
As such, ask yourself these questions:
Is the content evergreen? In other words, will the content be relevant for an extended period of time (so you can use get long-term usage from it)?
For example, if the content makes references that date it, you’ll likely want to tweak it to make it evergreen.
Does the content refer to the vendor or someone else? Sometimes marketers sell a product for a while, and then they sell the PLR to the content. And sometimes the content refers to the person who created it (e.g., When I started the XYZ website…”). Again, you’ll need to tweak it to remove those references.
Sidebar: As long as there are just a few of these references, it’s an easy fix when you edit. What you want to avoid is PLR content that relies heavily on personal references.
Does the content require tweaking because it’s poorly written?
Bottom line: If the content requires a lot of tweaking for any reason, you’re probably better off buying something else.
Here’s the goal…
Look for PLR content that you can edit slightly for personalization to make it uniquely yours without having to do massive re-writes.

Do These Google Searches
Even if the PLR content itself looks amazing, you need to research the vendor to be sure he or she is reputable.
That’s because…
Some shady vendors will actually steal someone else’s content and sell the licensing rights to it, which they don’t legally have the right to do.
If you use this content, you’re the one who could end up in legal hot water with a copyright infringement suit. That’s why you’ll want to do your due diligence on the vendor by running these Google searches:
- Search for the vendor’s name.
- Search for the vendor’s business name.
- Search for some of their most popular PLR products.
If you see any red flags, avoid this vendor and choose someone else.
A true must-do when it comes to selecting PLR content is to purchase it from a credible vendor with an established reputation and service history.
Anything else is too risky.
See if the Package Includes These Goodies
You can buy anything from a few PLR articles all the way up to a complete “business in a box” PLR package. Check if the PLR content you want to buy includes extras such as:
- Professional sales page to sell the product.
- The design for the website.
- Professional graphics (ecover graphics, as well as graphics in the interior of the product).
- Professional layout and design of the content (particularly a template so that you can tweak the content while maintaining the layout and design).
- Extras to sell the content, such as an autoresponder series or a set of ads to use on sites like Facebook or Google Ads.
TIP: Check if the graphics include a tweakable source file, so that you can change the title of a product and still have a great graphic to use.
Sidebar: These extras are important if you plan to use the content as quickly as possible while making only minor tweaks. If you plan to re-name and re-brand the content with a completely original design, then some of these won’t be as important. Again, rule #1 is to start with your needs and your goals. Then, find PLR that best fits.
Ask: Is This a Prolific Vendor?
If you intend to use a lot of PLR content for your business, then check if the vendor sells a lot of PLR content in your niche.
If you purchase most or all of your PLR content from one vendor, less tweaking is required to make it “sound the same.”
Readers will appreciate the continuity of content that’s written in the same voice and basically shares the same underlying philosophy.
For example, if you’re looking for content on raising children, you might get content that shares radically different ideas about how to punish/discipline children. You’ll want to find a vendor whose content matches your own philosophy, and then stick with that vendor whenever possible.
This will save you a lot of time and effort, so consider this up front when evaluating content.
Bottom line: find a vendor who offers a lot of PLR content with a consistent style and substance, and purchase from them as often as applicable.
Ask: Is This “Filler” Content?
As you’re evaluating the content, take time to read the sample carefully to determine if it’s “meaty” content (lots of steps, tips, and ideas), or if it’s just a lot of fluff and filler.
Sidebar: You can tell very quickly if the content actually provides any kind of helpful information. Good content should be explanatory.
Choose meaty content whenever possible, as it’s more valuable to your audience, and it requires less tweaking on your behalf.
Ask: Will I Use Most of It?
If you’re purchasing a large amount of PLR content (such as a package), be sure that you’re actually going to use it. In other words, don’t buy a large package just to get one piece of it – unless that piece is really valuable to your business. Otherwise, you’re going to spend a lot of money, and end up with most of the content gathering virtual dust on your hard drive.
Ask: Will This Showcase My Brand’s Expertise?
One of the reasons you post content in your niche is to help establish the authority of your brand. As you’re evaluating content, you’ll want to ask yourself if a particular piece will make your brand look good, or if it would require you to tweak it a lot to get it to that point.
For example, as an expert, you want to present content that’s written with authority. Avoid PLR content where the author seemed unsure of him or herself. You can recognize this sort of content because you’ll see a lot of words such as “probably” (e.g., “This is probably the best way to do it…”).
Determine: How Many Licenses are Available?
The next thing you’ll want to look at it is how many PLR licenses the vendor is selling. The more licenses available, the more competition you’ll have.
Sidebar: Again, you’ll want to tweak the content to make it unique, but it’s still easier to stand out if there aren’t thousands of other people starting with the same base piece of content, using many of the same landing pages, using the same graphics and so on.
TIP: If someone sells 500 or 1000 licenses, that’s not really a big deal since the internet is fairly big, you’re going to tweak your content, and not every license holder is going to use their content. Be wary, however, if MRR is available. Which brings us to the next point…
Check if the Vendor Ever Sold MRR
Sometimes a vendor will tell you that they’re selling X number of licenses. However, if they’ve ever sold MRR (master resell rights) to the content, OR if they’re an MRR license holder who’s selling the content to you, then be aware that it’s likely that dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people are all selling PLR licenses – which means a whole lot of people could have the rights to this particular piece of content.
SIDEBAR: However, this isn’t always the case. If the vendor is selling master licensing at a premium price (Ex. $297-$497) and enforces MAP pricing (minimum advertising pricing) for licensees, then you’ll likely have few competitors. The premium price tag will limit it to those who have the budget / interest, and the MAP pricing will prevent massive sales of the licensing at low prices. What you primarily want to avoid is content where everyone who obtains the license has the right to pass on licensing to others, or licensing that can be sold at extremely low prices making it accessible to tens of thousands of competitors.
Check What Others are Doing
Depending on how you want to use the content and how much tweaking you intend to do, you may want to run a check to see what others are doing with the content.
- One way to do this is to search Google for a pretty unique passage from the content, using quotes so that you get exact matches.
- Alternatively, you can use a tool like Copyscape.com to see how many others are using the content on public platforms as-is.
-
For example, if you intend to do as little tweaking as possible (which isn’t recommended), you can see how much competition you’re up against.
TIP: Keep in mind that if the content is fairly new, you might not get many (or any) results if license holders haven’t had a chance to start using it).
Check the Graphics
As mentioned earlier, it’s a nice bonus when your PLR package includes graphics. However, you’re going to want to double check that you do have the rights to use the graphics.
SIDEBAR: Why wouldn’t you have the rights to use them? The reason is because sometimes PLR vendors focus on creating the text content, and then they outsource the graphics to someone else. And that “someone else” may give them graphics that they’re not allowed to license.
What you want to do is reach out to the vendor and simply inquire about how they sourced the graphics, and if there are separate licensing terms for the graphics.
